Visual Alerting Devices - Fire Alarms

On August 2016, Deaf Action launched a petition calling for Visual Alerting Devices to be made mandatory in public buildings.

The Government Administration Select Committee fully supported the petition.

Standards NZ was tasked to update NZS 4512:2010 Fire detection and alarm systems in buildings.

It’s expected this updated NZS guide will be released at the end of 2021.

MBIE needs to make it mandatory for all public venues to have VADs under the Building Act.
